If I had the option of a 2.5L NA with a hybrid or my old 4V6 - I'll be sticking with what I got. If I could pay $5k more and get a hybrid add-on with 100hp added on top of the current 4Runner and another 5mpg across the board, I'd buy it without a second thought over a supercharger. I'm getting less and less optimistic about it though. I think the 3.5L v6 with the hybrid system and a combined 350-400hp would be great in the 4Runner. With 300+hp in that setup it might actually tow really well so long as you have enough juice to pull up the longest pass you'll see on your trip. The larger battery pack means it can deliver a lot more amps. The outlier in all of Toyota's new models is the RAV4 Prime. But a 2.5 N/A hybrid? It could still work if - and that's a huge *if* it has a 30kwh battery pack so it can deliver 250hp continuous output for long duration up big mountain passes. I don’t see how you put a 2.5L hybrid in a BOF vehicle expected to tow 5,000 pounds.
